The flooding has begun!







... The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Flood
Warning for Bethel on the Kuskokwim river effective through 4 PM
Thursday...

The breakup front on the Kuskokwim river is reported to be between
Kwethluk and Bethel this afternoon and progressing slowly. The
unusually cold weather so far this Spring has allowed for little
deterioration of the ice. Significantly warmer temperatures recently
is causing a rapid deterioration of this ice and... along with the
approaching breakup front and continued warm temperatures... is likely
to result in ice jams in the Bethel area which can cause flooding
behind the jams.
