Unalaska/Dutch Harbor

So, we haven't blogged about it, but we're officially moving to Unalaska in February.  And in eager anticipation of that mission, we've been dutifully researching our new abode online.  I have a new job, and Genevieve will take care of Paxson Revel and probably do some contract physical therapy work, and who knows, maybe open up a bed and breakfast or a tasty bakery.  "Genevieve's Secret."

Dutch Harbor is the last stop on the Alaska Ferry System.  It has the potential for all kinds of exciting adventures, including snowboarding, surfing, kayaking, halibut fishing, hiking, running, and seafood eating.  The downside is the remoteness of the island, the high cost of airfare going to and fro, and the frequent extreme weather. 

Perhaps some of you have seen The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel.  Dutch Harbor's the port that those crab fishermen return to and sell their goodies.  And we'll be first in line to eat those tasty goodies!  And if we figure out an effective shipping mechanism, we'll be happy to send some fresh ones your way!

And of course, our open invitation for everybody to come visit and have a place to crash remains open.  We extended it from Bethel, but only one person took us up on it.  (Thanks, Mom!).  But we're confident that with ocean, mountains, and a small but growing number of tourist attractions, more people will be inclined to come visit us in our new setting!
