Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the great white north! We were very excited to finally being living in a place with Trick-O-Treaters, so we went to the local grocery store and stocked up on candy! Candy is steep in these parts...we bought one bag for $17.99 and 2 bags for 8.99. When we got home, it didn't even fill up our bowl, so we scrounged around the house for items we would be willing to give up for hungry trick-or-treaters. But then, it started getting dark and darker and the other houses on our street were looking pretty dark. We tried to place our pumpkin strategically to signal our candy stockpile, but kids only seemed to go on the street next to ours. Our place is on the side of a building, so it's hard to see from the street. So after anticipating nearly 100 kids, we only got 4. But we gave up about 7:30 and headed over to a little gathering with one of the judges and his friends. We met a couple who have been living up here for tons of years and have a fancy bed and breakfast. They were pretty funny...especially the guy who seems to come up with lots of hair-brained schemes including getting a grant from Jimmy Carter to build a steam powered boat to deliver vegetables, mostly potatoes, to bush villages in the delta. The best part about it is that he actually built the boat...though it never saw any days in the water. So it was an entertaining night afterall!

I'm sure Dawson was pretty bummed about having to eat all that candy.
