Wow
I thought I saw some strange cases come across my desk, but in terms of pure shock value, Chris Pettelle pretty much takes the cake by working on this case.
I can't quite compete with CPT, but... Bootlegging is still illegal up here in Bethel. Alcohol causes so many problems around these parts, it's quite amazing, so the community has made the sale of liquor illegal. Bootlegging is a felony, and generally vigorously prosecuted. This guy got sentenced to write a letter of apology to the community for his bootlegging, so he sent the following to the local paper:
"Dear Letters to the Editor,
As many of you know, in the past I sold alcohol in Bethel. Well, I got caught. So I got me a good lawyer, Jim Valcarce, and received a sentence, where after, I did not serve any jail time. The judge, however told me that I needed to apologize to all through a letter, and submit it to the newspapers. I am doing just that with this letter.
William Samuelson."
