Friday Night Lights, bonfire style

Perhaps I don't need to write a narrative for this one. The pictures pretty much explain the story. One minute, you're thinking how cool bush Alaska is because you can have a large bonfire going, unmolested by "the man". The next minute, you're cursing my brethren at the Bethel Fire Department. Turns out "the man" has made it to Bethel.

Even though it was twenty degrees out, feet of snow surrounded the fire, and nothing remotely flammable was anywhere nearby, we were informed that we needed an open burning permit. Since we didn't have one, BFD made BFD out of the fire and squirted it out. Right after they told us it was the perfect place and perfect conditions for an outdoor fire. Another victory for the man.

Safety first.

When you get your rope tying merit badge will the fire department let you supervise big ass outdoor fires?
