Famous Bethel-onians
Speaking of NPR, the voice that millions of Americans hear every day, Corey Flintoff, got his start right here in the thriving metropolis of Bethel back in the early 80's. We just watched a documentary he made about the 1983 K-300, which was highly entertaining for the hairstyles alone. In other big news, we're both currently experiencing all time low temperatures... the windchill just dropped to negative 50.
On tap today we have a craft fair at the cultural center, volunteering at the starting line of the K300, Camai dancing (traditional Yup'ik dancing) and fiddle dancing later in the evening, fireworks at 9:00 (Bethel's big annual fireworks display), and a large bonfire which I'm hoping will be the size of a small house given the temperature.
