The Ice Road

We took the Suby on its first tour of the ice road. The "ice road" is the river, which in past years has been graded and maintained to create a highway about 150 miles long. This year, because of potential liability, the city and state have both decided not to fund it.
Fuckin' lawyers! (Just joking... being one, I can't really curse them.)
Anyway, it's a bit more adventurous to drive on but its still feasible. It's kind of like off roading with the occasional snow drift in your way, but there's so much traffic the way stay pretty clear. We drove to Napakiak, about 12 miles downriver.
Genevieve was a bit nervous at first, but by the end of the trip she was an ice driving champion. Here's a little clip of driving on the ice road. Incidentally, you'd think hooky-bobbing would be great on the ice river, but it really isn't. Somehow the ice isn't that slippery.
This last picture is for those plane afficionados who may or may not be perusing the site. The nose painting is a mermaid, "Salmon Ella".
